Almost every Lantern Point house sits in one neighborhood: the Fairfield Beach area, the stretch of Fairfield between Long Island Sound and the Post Road. If you have never spent time down here, this is what it is like.
The streets
Our houses are on Fairfield Beach Road, Reef Road and Reef Court, Rowland Road, College Place, Welch Terrace, and Veres Street. Fairfield Beach Road runs along the water itself, and the houses there are the ones people picture when they say beach house. Reef Road and Rowland Road run inland from the beach toward the Post Road, and the side streets off them are quieter blocks a few minutes' walk from the sand. Lantern Point, the neighborhood we are named for, is the point of land at the far end of Fairfield Beach Road.
The beach
Penfield Beach and Jennings Beach are town beaches at the heart of the neighborhood, with the Penfield Pavilion, a boardwalk, and open sand that empties out once summer ends. From most of our houses you can walk to the water without crossing a major road. Sunset over the Sound is the daily event.
Downtown Fairfield
Head up Reef Road and you land on the Post Road, which is downtown Fairfield: restaurants, coffee, the movie theater, the library, the Metro-North station, and the shops along the strip. It is close enough to walk on a nice day and a short drive or bike ride otherwise. The train to Grand Central is about an hour and a half, which matters more than you think when friends and family want to visit.
Getting to campus
Fairfield University's campus is inland on North Benson Road, a short drive from the beach. Most beach-area seniors either have a car or carpool with housemates, and the university has historically run a shuttle between campus and the beach area. Check the current schedule with the university before you count on it.
Living here
This is a real neighborhood with year-round residents, families, and retirees on the same blocks as students. Bins go out on garbage day and come back the same day, music comes down at a reasonable hour, and the people next door are treated like neighbors. Groups that do this well are welcomed back for their senior year, and that is exactly what we want for you.
